A Letter From Jaenet

Subject: class
sheri,
i want you to know that i value your coaching tremendously! and i truly regret i am swamped right now.
i work for my mom, selling books, and i am also trying to set up the centerpiece of my rather epic movie. as gerry fried said to me the other day, "so what's your next one, the bible?"
i have this big nyc scene, with 2 musicians and a band and apartments and street scenes -- all in 1977.
and my set dresser, like we all did, thought we had months before doing this scene.
but the only time the musicians have a mutually open slot is april 22-24.
and i still need to raise serious money.
and i absolutely have to pay the day players, i refuse to not do that.
so i negotiating like mad, figuring out logistics of where to stay in nyc, what i can gather to bring to get the apartments appropriately authentic.
the musicians will just have to wear jeans and converse sneakers. which i am sure none of them own. so no shoe shots, although one musician sprints through the streets of nyc several times... so his feet will show -- gah!!!
so i will let them look however they want to...but tweak them as best i can. who am i to dictate what a musician wears?
and what i thought was a set deal is now becoming debatable. i have to send another reel in to one musician. and i don't have a reel of the movie i am shooting, so he's getting raw footage, clipped roughly from long takes. i think he just needs proof of quality of image and sound.
and he wants it by the end of the week and i changed my editing program -- so i have to see if the old stuff works on the new stuff --
and will dear cousin mark trot it over to him, as i don't know how to save it except as a sequence in final cut.
and poor cousin mark is freaking out over insurance and permits and break down.
he is the shooter and director.
and the musician couple separated so i lost the amazing wife because before it was a package deal and now it isn't.
she's in leya right now. i can't afford her outside of a package deal.
and there's the issue of course feeding everyone well. that is my signature trademark. no catering. it will all be great stuff from EAT that i schlepp upstairs and oh gosh, is there a coffee machine? do i need to buy zillions of cups?
and i hope to hell my cousin mark was teasing that he didn't need a sound man.
and it's his son's birthday on one of those days, and they, mark and family, take birthdays very seriously. will we take a hiatus to celebrate andre's birthday? can he come to the recording studio and do a solo act?
cousin mark is a professional dp who does everything. from hanging out of helicopter to latisse commercials with claire danes to indy shoots to --- he's won awards and is great. this is his first directing gig, at my insistence. and i didn't want to be there to cramp his style and now i have to be...
gah!
that's why i've been really tired.
so, my sincere apologies for not making it last week or this week. this is the last big big big shoot, in fact the ONLY big big big shoot, of the year. i have a complicated one in santa fe next winter. and pick up shots all summer long. but, the nyc thing is really demanding to organize.
xoxo

Hopeless

A Benjamin Friedman film, starring Jaenet Guggenheim and Charles Gamble.
-------------
"I was a student at USC Film School, having started a few years before Jaenet. The character, Kate, was the female lead, and had to be beautiful and appealing, yet vulnerable. Jaenet performed the role perfectly, and it was an easy decision to cast her. It was a very fun production, laid back and relaxed with lots of good food provided by my father, and Jaenet was a joy to work with."
